Mick & Olive

Mick and Olive have been running the Palomino since Oct 1987, originally with two other people but soon found that partnerships do not run too smoothly.

Once they parted company they soon started to mould the Palomino into what it is today. A family run bar/cafeteria, which really does cater for families and their children’s’ needs. Once their daughter Lisa came of age and married Ian, they joined Mick and Olive and brought with them the much needed youth as mum and dad were not getting any younger!!!.

After many years of Mick doing all the cooking, it was time to employ a chef to take the load off. Nathan joined the team, which could not have been better timing as Lisa and Ian presented them with their first Menorcan born granddaughter named Michaela Olivia after Nan and Granddad, followed two years later with another granddaughter named Charly. They already had two grandchildren from their eldest son Tony and daughter-in-law Tracey (yes she is an Essex girl), Luke who is the eldest and Shona who is drop dead gorgeous and could easily become a model. Not to be outdone, their eldest daughter Caron and son-in-law Mike presented them with James and Harrison and then in April 2004 rounded it off nicely and presented them with their latest granddaughter, Millie.

So as you can see this truly is a family that enjoy being around other families. They have quite a large menu to cater for all tastes including of course a children’s’ menu and an extensive take away menu in case the kids are a bit grumpy and you need to eat at home. They import as much English food as possible, so that when you have their now famous cooked breakfast, it is what you would cook in your own home in the UK. They now have in total, five members of staff, who can all cook and all serve the tables and can also run the bar, so whoever serves you or cooks for you does it with the professionalism that you deserve.

They specialise in steaks and have used the same butchers for 17 years to maintain top quality. In 1987 there was no Indian restaurant in Menorca, so Mick who is a curry fan very quickly learned to produce a curry pretty close to what you would expect in England. To end the week on a high the Palomino proudly offer probably the best Sunday roast in Menorca, with a choice of roast beef/chicken or pork loin, served with roast and mashed potatoes, four vegetables, Yorkshire pud and gravy accompanied with English mustard/horseradish/apple or mint sauce. And to complete your meal, they have now imported the old-fashioned puds such as spotted dick/chocolate pud/treacle pud and jam sponge pud, as well as the usual apple pie and crumbles as well as bread and butter pud.

As they have lived in Menorca for nearly 17 years they have quite a lot of local knowledge, they will be happy to pass it on to you, so that you can enjoy your stay to the maximum and not waste your valuable holiday time searching for places to go and things to do.

Mick and Olive and their family love Menorca and hope you choose to come and visit (THE JEWEL OF THE MED).
